Tips for saving time with meals
My tips for increasing the chances of a cooked meal: Make a shopping list out ahead of time, including what would be needed for 2 particular meals. If in doubt list ideas to look for. Include minor details such as any spices you may be out of and would need. Keep stocked in your common spices! If I don't have onion or garlic in I panic. lol sage and thyme are becoming essential to me since we eat alot of red meat (hamburger) in cooked meals. My bf likes spicy so we have cayenne and a cajun mix as well. Don't pass up what's on the list for snack foods that are more appealing at the time. I do that too much because I walk to the store and have to carry everything "well I can get the can of cream of mushroom later, what I want now are those pizza rolls". Then later there's leftover pizza rolls for dinner and uncooked chicken in the freezer instead of a nice smothered chicken breast on the plate. If you make it they will eat. My bf often gets home from work and isn't hungry, but I'm starving. Instead of throwing something in the microwave I make a full dinner as planned. Eventually he eats it too! And we both had a cooked meal instead of resorting to heating something up. It'll stay warm on the stove for about an hour, and if necessary put it away and let them reheat. At least YOU had a cooked meal and did it when you had time. If you find time is lacking for the pots and pans then do meals with quick components like rice, instant mashed potatoes, frozen veggies, condensed soup, or fresh fruit to be eaten as is. Baking can also free up time. The prep and checking in on the dish or item is all that's needed. It's also healthier than frying most foods. I bake most meats and potato items now as well as anything breaded. |
