Makeshift curtain tips
These are things I learned when putting together two curtains to make one larger one to fit a double window. They were sunblockers and had to be one piece to work effectively. Plus...I had purchased them way too small. I then covered the large double sunblocker with a larger cloth (lace) curtain to block the edges, since it still wasn't a large enough curtain. I only had a single curtain rod so I safety pinned one to the other. Now I am constantly fixing it, it sags, it's ripping, and it lets in light. The stitching on the new rod casing is coming apart because I was too lazy to sew all the way across. So, I feel you should learn from my mistakes! #1) Measure the window properly and buy a curtain that fits. If you need it then pay for it. Don't skimp like I did. And include the area beyond the area that you wish the curtain to cover. #2) Don't use a small sewing machine and a single straight stitch if you do need to sew some together. Regardless of the fabric. It gets weighted down, it can use a little extra stitching. #3) Safety pins and lace don't mix. At all. Especially when being pulled down by a heavy curtain. #4)Decide before you purchase the curtain rod whether you will be happy with just the one curtain or if you should splurge on a double rod. They are expensive so you might as well get it right the first time!

Contributor's Note
I battle with those curtains every day! And I battle ceiling fan blades to fix the sag.
