Digital Photography has changed art
I am a digital photographer. I have no formal training, but always had a fascination with taking the perfect picture. When using 35mm I was often constrained to cheaper cameras with little ability to worry about exposure times, aperture sizes, or focus. Now with digital cameras, it's all built in, even in the cheapest models, even if we don't have control over it. This has turned many hobbyists, including myself, into artists. On artist venues there is often a split between digital artists (including digital photographers) and more traditional artists. Often the work that goes into more automated forms of art is seen as inconsequential or unassociated with the outcome. This is not true! It still takes an artist's eye and skill in using the camera or software to churn out art. Even though anyone can pick up a camera nowadays and take a picture without worrying about focus, aperture, or lighting there are still instances of horrendous photos. There is the placement and alignment of the subjects in regards to background. There are additional settings that can manipulate the image as it is captured. There is framing and light refraction to deal with. Digital photography is just another way to take artistic photos, not a way to bypass the work and artistry. What digital cameras have done is made it easier for an artist to work. There is no more cost of unused film or exposures. There is software manipulation that can add to the artist's vision. There are online printing services making the space and expense of home developing obsolete. And there are online galleries exposing artists to the world! It is much easier for artists now because of digital equipment. Some of us would never have had the opportunity to share our vision. |

I'm also into digital photography . I agree with you, digital photography has indeed changed the landscape of the art of photography. Not only that it gives the digital photographer more options but also it is cheaper and more practical.
